Alleppey Ripples Edge Past Globstars in High-Scoring Contest

Calicut Globstars put up a commanding total of 213/5 before Alleppey Ripples completed a high-scoring chase to win by six wickets in an entertaining Kerala Cricket League encounter at the Greenfield International Stadium.

A strong start sets the platform

Sent in to bat, Globstars made their intentions clear from the opening overs. Rohan S Kunnummal provided the early momentum with a fluent 42 off 23 balls, striking four fours and three sixes.

After Kunnummal's departure, Varun Nayanar took over the scoring duties and produced another important contribution. The right-hander brought up an impressive 62 off 36 balls, finding the boundary nine times along with a six.

With the innings moving at a healthy rate, Globstars were well placed for a strong finish.

Scaria delivers in the middle

The responsibility of taking the innings through the closing overs fell to Akhil Scaria, who delivered with an excellent unbeaten 72 off 38 balls.

Scaria combined clean strokeplay with calculated aggression, striking seven fours and four sixes. His unbeaten knock ensured that Globstars maintained their momentum even as wickets fell around him.

The late overs saw Globstars push beyond the 200-run mark, eventually finishing on 213/5 from their 20 overs.

It was a strong batting effort, with Kunnummal's fast start, Nayanar's half-century and Scaria's unbeaten 72 forming the backbone of the innings.

Azharudheen takes the chase away

Alleppey faced a target of 214 but responded with an equally aggressive approach.

Globstars looked for early wickets to put the chase under pressure, but Mohammed Azharudheen produced a remarkable innings that shifted the momentum firmly towards the Ripples.

Azharudheen remained unbeaten on 112 off 60 balls, striking five fours and an outstanding ten sixes. His century kept Alleppey ahead of the required rate and put the chase within reach.

Akshay TK played an important supporting role with 43 off 30 balls, while Arun KA added a quick 31 off 14 as the Ripples continued to make progress.

With the target approaching, Globstars continued to search for breakthroughs, but Azharudheen remained in control.

Alleppey eventually reached 215/4 in 19.3 overs, completing the chase with three deliveries remaining.

A contest dominated by the bat

The game produced a memorable batting spectacle, with both teams crossing the 200-run mark.

For Globstars, Scaria's unbeaten 72 and the half-centuries from Nayanar and Kunnummal provided plenty of highlights, while Azharudheen's outstanding century ultimately proved decisive for Alleppey.

Globstars will take the positives from another productive outing with the bat as they prepare for their next challenge in KCL Season 3.
